Bethesda says it is working on a patch to address texture scaling issues found in the Xbox 360 version of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
Players began reporting problems with the Xbox 360 version of the game following its release on Friday, with the issues apparently affecting those who had installed the game to their hard drives. While Bethesda's VP of marketing and PR Pete Hines intially dismissed the claims on Twitter, a post by Bethesda's community manager on the game's official forums acknowledges the problem and says the team is working to fix it.
"Skyrim uses a lot of dynamic streaming systems, including textures," the post reads. "We've seen a few reports of certain textures temporarily scaling down on the Xbox 360, and not scaling back up.
"We have verified that this issue does not occur when playing off the disc and when the game is fully cached (not installed). We're working on a solution in the next update for those who have installed the game."

5Hope they are also working on the random crashes while loading on the PS3 - Had quite a few of them already and replaying the quests after a reboot can become quite a bit annoying...
Me too. Played for 4 hours in my first session with no issues on PS3 - my second session it crashed 7 times in 7 hours. There seems to be an autosave issue too, as it doesn't save on travelling every time. Having to get off the couch, hard reset the machine and then retrace your steps is a major pain.
With the new engine I thought this was going to be a huge improvement on the fiasco that was Fallout: New Vegas. Not so. I had relatively few problems with Oblivion or Fallout 3 as best I can recall, so a step sideways as opposed to forwards for me. I does look beautiful though, so when they finally get it right it will be fantastic.
All that said, it's probably still going to be the best £40 I've spent this year.
This is one of many reasons why I didn't bother with the console version. A fixed platform and they still screw it up...hah! I've seen dogs sitting on fence posts, a man launched into the stratosphere after challenging a giant (he did not come back down--I waited), but have no problems with the performance. The loading screens are so fast I can't finish reading the text, thanks to installing it on an SSD. I have a 360, but Elder Scrolls games will never be played on it again.
Until Bethesda starts supporting Macs, I'm stuck playing their games on consoles. I'm renting this one for now, mostly due to lack of time, but I'll definitely be picking up the GoTY edition whenever that ships.
While I could use Boot Camp to run Windows, I'd rather not have to reboot just to play a game. Plus, I'd then have to babysit another installation of Windows and its never-ending stream of hotfixes and service packs (I've been running Windows since version 1, so I'm *very* familiar with running and supporting Windows...)
To add to my post above I would just like to state that I wish all the issues I had with Skyrim were cosmetic. If Hines is listening... which he clearly should be, he should take the comments of PS3 users as seriously as he does with those of XBox. At the very least he should acknowledge that there are problems with Sony hardware too. Not just the PC and the XBox i.e. the US market.
I would interpret the specific comments regarding 360 graphics issues as an admission that because the Windows PC version and the Microsoft console version are clearly linked one way or another, they are deemed more critical.
Having to put up with a few dodgy textures would certainly be preferable to the crap I've been putting up with over the last few days. In fact, the only issues I've EVER had with my PS3 crashing during offline gameplay have been with Bethesda games. You can't help but get the feeling that the more you see the 'Your PS3 was not shut down properly' message on startup that it's not doing your hardware any favours.
Interestingly, Nintendo seem to ship a prefect game every time. I've had a wii now for as long as it's been available and have never had a single issue.
No one is denying the ambition of the titles Bethesda produces. They are tremendously exciting, but this is their 4th botched attempt on the same standard hardware. Rockstar seem to manage it every time. Pull your socks up for Christ's sake.
In my opinion, buying a game at 9am on the day of release, putting it in the drive, and being redirected immediately to the store for an update is an absolute disgrace.
Take pity on the poor souls who have no Internet, for they are being shipped an inferior product from which they will never get the value they expect or deserve. I feel more for them than I do for myself. They are truly being ripped off.
