The PS3 version of Bioshock will hit retail shelves on October 21 and 24 in North America and international retailers, respectively, 2K Games confirmed Tuesday.

The publisher said Bioshock for PS3 will offer new features, including a survivor difficulty mode and Trophy support.

The game will also have new expanded content in the form of Challenge Rooms, which 2K says will "test the mettle of new and seasoned gamers by requiring them to utilize the knowledge and skills they have learned while traversing the halls of Rapture."

Bioshock originally appeared on Xbox 360 and PC last year, garnering critical acclaim and commercial success for 2K and its parent, Take-Two.

The Bioshock franchise and the talent behind it is one leveraging tool Take-Two is using as it tries to extract a higher offer price from high-profile suitor, EA.

The PS3 version of Bioshock is a joint development effort between 2K Marin, 2K Boston, 2K Australia and Digital Extremes.
