Blitz Games Studios’ licensable middleware, BlitzTech, now features full functionality for Xbox 360’s Kinect and PS3’s Move.
“Our in-house technology team has always thrived on a challenge. The amazing variety of Kinect and Move titles that we’ve signed up over the last year has enabled us to really experiment with the capabilities of these new devices,” said Richard Hackett, the company's technical director. “We’re incredibly excited about the potential of both systems and we’ve already received some great feedback on our work so far.”
The UK-based firm is currently working on a number of motion control games, including movie karaoke title Yoostar2 and personal fitness training game The Biggest Loser: Ultimate Workout.
Chief technical officer Andrew Oliver said of Kinect in an interview published earlier this month: “I think developers will realise very quickly that actually this is a platform that is going to be very big, and there's a lot of hardcore programming in there that you're going to need for it. To actually write all this stuff is a lot of work - even we've found that it's a lot of work, and we're making several games and are going to licence it on to other people, so we believe that it's worth the investment. If you're one studio, or just writing one game, it's a hell of a lot of investment to get one system working, for just one game. So we think the obvious opportunity is middleware.”
