The company's community manager responded to a fan query on Twitter with the words: "Yup. Josh Mosqueira is lead designer for the Diablo console project."
It has long been accepted that Blizzard was working on a console version of the game. At Blizzcon last August, game director Jay Wilson told Game Informer that the company was "still in active explorer mode; we haven't officially announced a product. We say that because we like our product announcements to be a big deal.
"We haven't been as secretive about this one because our biggest barrier is actually getting a console team … We don't want to port it. We want to build it for console. There's a key difference."
It appears Blizzard has successfully put together a console team headed up by Mosqueira, whose most recent employer was THQ, where he worked on games in the Warhammer and Company Of Heroes series.
Diablo III was originally set for release late last year, but Blizzard announced a delay to early 2012 just days after the start of a closed beta test, and is still yet to confirm a final release date.
