Though the Entertainment Software Association lists gaming giant Activision Blizzard as an exhibitor at June's re-revamped "big" E3 in L.A., don't expect to see any Diablo, StarCraft or Warcraft action.

"Blizzard Entertainment will not be attending or participating in E3 2009," Blizzard PR manager Bob Colayco told Edge in an e-mail.

For the past two E3s, organizers had toned down the event, allowing only around 5,000 media and business attendees, as opposed to the tens of thousands that would flock to the L.A. Convention Center in years past. Activision had opted out of E3 2008, electing to hold its own event, but recently confirmed it would be returning this year, when the large, flashy format makes a comeback.

The last time Blizzard attended E3 was in 2007 when the low-key media and business summit was held in Santa Monica.

Blizzard has held its own BlizzCon event since 2005, a decidedly different kind of show that caters to fans as opposed to gaming professionals.

understandable. they host their own event, BlizzCon, which has grown into quite the spectacle. plus they might be (just guessing here) a little busy working simultaneously on SC2 & Diablo 3.

E3 has always been a loud waste of time and money. the last two years in which the industry consecutively boasted record sales during the "subdued E3" more than proved that. it makes good fodder for the press (mainstream and enthusiast) and kids watching on tv, though.
