Though the Entertainment Software Association lists gaming giant Activision Blizzard as an exhibitor at June’s re-revamped "big" E3 in L.A., don’t expect to see any Diablo, StarCraft or Warcraft action.
"Blizzard Entertainment will not be attending or participating in E3 2009," Blizzard PR manager Bob Colayco told Edge in an e-mail.
For the past two E3s, organizers had toned down the event, allowing only around 5,000 media and business attendees, as opposed to the tens of thousands that would flock to the L.A. Convention Center in years past. Activision had opted out of E3 2008, electing to hold its own event, but recently confirmed it would be returning this year, when the large, flashy format makes a comeback.
The last time Blizzard attended E3 was in 2007 when the low-key media and business summit was held in Santa Monica.
Blizzard has held its own BlizzCon event since 2005, a decidedly different kind of show that caters to fans as opposed to gaming professionals.
