Blizzard has made its fortune from the PC platform, but the acclaimed studio isn't oblivious to console development, according to an MTV Multiplayer report.

"I don’t think World of Warcraft would really work that well on the console,” said World of Warcraft director Jeff Kaplan, “but that’s not to say that other MMOs couldn’t.

'...We have a pretty savvy group of console developers--a lot of the guys we inherited from Swingin’ Ape really know what they’re doing on next-gen consoles. So we might have a few tricks up our sleeves in that regard.”

Blizzard purchased console developer Swingin' Ape in 2005 with the clear intention of focusing on consoles. The group had previously worked on the ill-fated console game StarCraft Ghost.

Kaplan's comment was in response to Sony Online Entertainment CEO John Smedley, who had told Multiplayer he wants his firm to be the console MMO leader.

Kaplan also said that he is "definitely involved" in Blizzard's unannounced "next-gen MMO."

Starcraft Ghost looked like a fucking bad ass idea... it pissed me off they didn't go through with it.

I mean the possibilties... Stealing Siege tanks... Goliaths... etc., they had better revive that shit. Because I would buy it, wait a fucking minute... I pre-ordered that bitch. Where's my Money?!?

I guess I need to make a house call, eh Blizzard?

one does have to wonder just how long they'll be able to ignore this segment of the market.

Diablo was once on console, my bets are on that.

So was Warcraft 2.

Starcraft was ported to N64, and they had some console exclusives in the early nineties. But of their major franchises, Diablo would require the fewest changes in gameplay mechanics to be played comfortably with a pad (there are already some console games with a near-identical premise, like Record of Lodoss War).

If you want to, then you can port anything. No console player really needs hotkey madness as if he is a Korean SC robot. Joypad controls are just fine and people motivated enough should have some mouse and Keyboard lying around somewhere waiting to be connected to the PS3. Zerg and Protoss campaigns strike me a mission pack type DLC, so there is not problem either.
