Online betting service paddypower has offered confident odds that Activision’s Call of Duty: World at War will end up at the top of the UK’s all-format chart this Christmas.

The successor to the exceptionally successful Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare has been given odds of 5-2 to take top spot. The result may come as little surprise to some observers; Modern Warfare was the best-selling game of 2007 and has sold over 10m copies worldwide. Publisher Activision is certain to hold a comprehensive advertising campaign during the build-up to Christmas.

Paddypower sees FIFA 09 (4-1) and Need For Speed Undercover (5-1) as the closest contenders, while LittleBigPlanet, Gears of War 2, Resistance 2 all are given odds of 8-1 at the time of writing.

Interestingly, the bookmaker has given two crucial Wii titles – Wii Music and Wii Fit – outsider odds of 20-1, perhaps due to the extended cost of peripherals as well as capacity issues at the retailers.
