At Tokyo Game Show Thursday morning, Microsoft and Bungie pulled back the veil on a new Halo 3 entry.
Dubbed Halo 3 Recon, a trailer for the game showed a UNSC special forces ODST (Orbital Drop Shock Trooper) emerging from a pod that blasted through the planet's atmosphere into a destroyed urban area.
The trailer said Halo 3 Recon will revolve around a new hero and new campaign and won't launch until fall 2009.
A new posting on Xbox.com said the Xbox 360 title will be a stand-alone expansion, and is "an intriguing side story that takes place during the terrifying events leading up to the Master Chief’s return to New Mombasa in Halo 3."
Microsoft also promised more stealth and strategic gameplay than in past Halo titles.
The company only revealed broad multiplayer details, saying Halo 3 Recon will employ new maps and expanded Forge options for Xbox Live Gold subscribers.
The game will be compatible with all of the community features incorporated into Halo 3.

In other news, Microsoft confirmed that the New Xbox Experience will launch around the world on November 19. It confirmed Tekken 6 and 99 Nights 2 for Xbox 360 and it said R-Type, King of Fighters and Metal Slug 7 would be Xbox Live titles.
I like the "recon" theme for the new Halo. I hope that its a little "bond flavored" in the Stealth department. that will be fun.
5-6 hours Long? well, it had better be about $40 bucks! ok, ok, Not exactly bad, but I prefer it to be at least an easy 5-6. with a challenging 8 hours. Then you can charge full price.
Halo 3's 5 Hours was great, but you know we all Looked at Bungie and Sighed..... Just a little bit. "fun, but ....wow. all that work.... for this?......"
Fall 2009, I'll probably be dead by then! I wish they'd have created a few more new levels to pad out Halo 3's rather short and muddled single-player campaign. I enjoyed playing the game but at the end felt short-changed, maybe the new game will give us single-player-campaign fans what we want.
Hmmm, I thought Bungie were working on a completely new IP..........
Hell,
Bungie said they're working on THREE projects some familiar some not, some in the near future, some a little way down the road. Check this http://www.bungie.net/News/content.aspx?type=topnews&cid=14920 second to the last paragraph they mention they're working on 3 projects. I'm sure one of those is an IP that Bungie will own the rights to, so although MS will publish it, as in the same article Bungie confirms they are only working with one publisher (MS), Bungie will have total creative freedom (hopefully).
Tekken 6 was really that last exclusive Sony had that made me want to buy a PS3, now I have no reason to get one...shame. Good on you MS (and NamcoBandai). Now I just need to find an adapter that lets me use the PS3 controller for its superior D-pad on my 360.
Just get that hyper-expensive Hori arcade stick! Problem solved.
I did do much better in the arcades than with the PS2 controller...isn't the DoA stick a bit cheaper?
