BusinessWeek has named Nintendo the world’s best company in a top 40 list compiled for the long-running magazine by management consulting firm A.T. Kearney.

The Japanese Wii and DS maker placed ahead of Google and Apple to take the top spot on the list, which was judged on “commitment to innovation, diversified portfolios, aggressive expansion, strong leadership, and a clear vision for the future”.

BusinessWeek pegged Nintendo’s 2008 sales at $16.8 billion (£10.53b) and said that the platform holder's market capitalisation was $52.93 billion (£33.16b) as of December 31, 2008.

It also noted that technology and telecommunications companies stood out most on the list, having tapped into continuing demand for new digital hardware and mobile-phone services.

No environmental, stats. Wasn't Nintendo classed as one of the most damaging to the environment due to the plastics they use?
But then again thats not talking profts.

Considering they weren't judging companies based on their environmental records, that wouldn't really matter.

Most electronics aren't that eco friendly especially considering companies want people to upgrade to the latest thing and forget their old systems every few years.

Being classes as the worst in that industry is like being classed as the worst cigarette company. It doesn't really matter.

I think they were criticised mainly for not releasing figures. http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3173586
