Infinity Ward has logged over 14 million unique users for its 2007 FPS title Call Of Duty 4.
“As of Jan 3, we hit 10,006,606 unique users who have ever played Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare on Xbox 360 and have connected to Xbox Live [since] playing,” said Infinity Ward’s director of communications Robert Bowling.
Posting the statistics on his semi-official blog, Bowling adds that around 4.38 million people have joined a multiplayer game, at some stage, on the PS3 version of the game.
Bowling also implies that these numbers shouldn’t be directly compared: “Now keep in mind, [the ten million unique users] are only players on Xbox 360 who have also connected to Xbox Live at least once. For PS3, we pulled MP-numbers only, and it looks like there’s approximately 4,381,276 unique users playing PSN (not including SP-only players)”.
Microsoft’s Larry Hryb has recently stated that Call Of Duty 4 was the second-most-played game over Xbox Live in 2008, with Treyarch’s successor sitting four places behind on the list.
Bowling has also presented a string of other statistics, such as what percentage of logged players have completed the game, which you can find here.
I've been playing this at least once a week for the last 14 months. There is nothing to come close. WaW isn't bad I just despise WWII weapons, why go back?
Plus this has everything, but most importantly lots or people to play on line. For me the only game that may de thrown it is Killzone 2... MAYBE.
With so many choices for online play, this one has grown to epic proportions. It's amazing how many people play it online.
Cod5 is not bad, but Modern Warfare is just unique...
This is by far the best fps on the 360, the more people play it the less will waste their time on cod5, a game I only play because I'm a sheep and the rest of my clan buddies bought it.
