[UPDATE: Activision has issued a press release confirming the details in this report, but it offered no further information on the game]
Activision will release a port of Infinity Ward’s Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare for Nintendo’s Wii.
Titled Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare and built by fellow franchise developer Treyarch, the title will launch on November 11, the same day as Infinity Ward’s COD: Modern Warfare 2 debuts, according to Kotaku.
The site points out that Treyarch's entries in the series, COD 3 and COD: World At War, have already been released on Wii, and suggests Activision will confirm the news today.
Released for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC in November 2007, COD 4: Modern Warfare has sold over 13 million copies to date, while last year’s COD: World At War has sold in excess of 11 million units.
Meanwhile, publisher Activision has confirmed the release of a new DS entry in the series, titled COD: Modern Warfare: Mobilised.
Developed by n-Space and also set for release on November 11, the title will feature a unique single player storyline, a six-player online multiplayer mode, a survival mode that sees players tackle waves of oncoming enemy forces, and an arcade mode that challenges players to complete time-based tasks and rack up a running score.
Look on the bright side guys... At least Wii owners have a "new" FPS to play this holiday season now that Red Steel 2 is delayed until next year.
I think it would've made more sense to just release MW2 on Wii, but shit... I know I'm still gonna buy it.
Im probably late to the disscussion but for what it's worth im throwing in my two cents anyway.
I own a Wii and quite frankly im disgusted by this idiotic move from Activision/Treyarch. Personally I feel that if the game wasn't released on Nintendo's platform then that would be bareable. However not only are Wii owners getting this title two years after release but to further add salt to the wound we are getting it on the same day as the sequel comes to the PS3 and XBOX 360. Is this some kind of joke because to be honest im not (and im sure I speak for the majority of Wii owners when I say this) laughing...because its just not fking funny:(
Actually, minor correction, not Treyarch, Infinity Ward aka the original developers/creators of the COD franchise and the dev studio that makes the good COD's (COD4, and MW2 which I'll safely assume will be at least pretty good). Treyarch basically is the goto shill dev for Activision. There's no way Infinity Ward would do a Wii FPS unless they an idea that fit the Wii.
Treyarch developed COD5: WAW, which did get a near simultaneous release on the Wii. I know this as my super-casual gaming friend who only had a Wii was playing it, but when we brought up a 360 to the cottage and played WAW on it, he basically found a good deal and bought a 360 three weeks later.
This is not a jab against the Wii, it's the truth, if you're interested in FPS's, seriously just get a 360 or PS3. Porting a FPS to the Wii is a straight up publisher cash grab. Gameplay is designed (and perfected in the case of the better FPS's) for a controller and scalable to a mouse and keyboard, and the graphics actually play an extremely important role in FPS's (which effects accuracy, scale of levels, and immersion). And as enjoyable and well done as COD4's single player is, it's online multiplayer is incredible, even assuming there are no difficulties the online "matchmaking" on the Wii version, the pool of players is going to be slim.
Well, really, if you're into FPSes, you've gotta have a PC. ;)
im sure I speak for the majority of Wii owners
I feel quite certain that you speak for only a teeny, tiny minority of Wii owners.
It sucked on the 360. I don't see it improving on the Wii.
Think we'd all forget your Nintendo Fanboy rant the other day! lol
Hey, is your avatar the bad guy from the first Crow movie? I thought it was either a girl or just a really girlie lookin dude, but I think that's the guy from the first Crow movie, he's got that little sword he stabbed that pawn shop owner with. The actor that played him actually voiced a character in Halo 2 (one of the prophets).
Come on!
You know you can spin that any way you want
Wow...wow. We gamers won't ever shake the "nerd" stigma as long as quality gamers like this guy are still around.
I haven't played modern warfare properly yet, and don't have WAW on my Wii. I also don't have an HD TV, and dig the control scheme from metroid prime 3. Hence, I might get hold of this.
I'd have to say, I didn't really like it that much on 360 though, but I did only play for half an hour, and everyone else says it's great. Hence, I guess I might be wrong..
I really enjoyed the campaign, but only played the multiplayer during the beta. I enjoyed it during the beta, but by the time I had finished campaign on veteran and got the mile-high club achievement everyone was already really good at multiplayer and I didn't want to get destroyed so I never played the multiplayer. I liked the game, the never-ending spawning enemies was a terrible gameplay design choice, but I still enjoyed the game.
Hand-me-downs, only two years old! At least they're finally getting it, but if I was a Wii-only owner I think I'd be a little bitter about getting a two year-old game when the sequel to it comes out the same day.
I think most Wii owners are bitter about more important things, like their husbands cheating on them or Pathmark running out of basil.
Been gone for a while and people are still calling you out as a fan boy. Sorry dude. That sucks.
Personally, I thought your point was valid and well worth reading.
The resulting "debate" not so much.
Lol, it actually hasn't been that bad (me getting called a fanboy). I have been less vocal of my support of MS (and even critical of MS at times just ask arron).
Nice to see you show your face.
Yeah, it did get a little carried away, but that happens from time to time. You looking forward to "MWii"?
I must be out of it if I don't get the "MWii" reference.
Oh, dubs just called it MWii (a combination of MW, and Wii I think) a second ago and I decided to use it.
Why? It's a new game that you can either buy and play or not.
The only reason to be "bitter" about it is if you calculate a sizable portion of your self-worth based on your choice of console and whether or not it's perceived via various arbitrary metrics to be "winning" against other consoles on the market—and we all know how pathetic THOSE people are!
I think you could have made your point without the need to try to turn this into a console's winning over the other issue, plus no need to attack someone for expressing their opinion, unless...you calculate a sizable portion of your self-worth based on how you can offend someone when trying to make a point.
Just saying.
Way to miss the point. I wasn't the one trying to turn this into (yet another) console vs. console pissing contest; look to the original "2 year old hand-me-downs" comment for that.
Maybe saying something like: Dude don't come here and try to turn this into (yet another) console vs. console pissing contest would have helped to get the point and without insulting anyone.
Is there some way I can submit all my comments to you for editing before they get posted on the site?
I can give you my e-mail address...
Thanks German.
Dubs,
To quote a saying from one of my favorite movies, "It's no insult to say a dead man is dead." Odysseus, Troy.
To say a game that IS a hand-me-down is a hand-me-down isn't an insult (or starting a pissing contest). The game (for lack of a better term) is a hand-me-down from two years ago. And to rub salt in the wound the ability to play that game will only occur when its sequel comes out (a sequel the Wii is not getting, at least not right away). If I'm a COD fan and don't want to wait 2 years to play a game in a series I really like, I'd either by a 360/PS3 or be bitter. My comment had nothing to do with this console vs. that console. So we can chalk it up as a miscommunication with a little unnecessary insult thrown in for good measure.
Hmmm, while I'm not sure I entirely buy the supposed lack of vitriol in your original comment, it was nevertheless easy for me to (mis-)interpret it that way because personally I don't care when a game comes out as long as there's a steady supply of good games for the systems I own, which hasn't been an issue for many, many years. I just this week started playing Dead Space! And I only paid $24 for it. What do I care that it's almost a year old?
To each his own really. Some people really like certain franchises and want the game day one, other's like yourself don't care so much. That is going to be dependent on each individual. Anyway, it's not such a big deal, we can move on.
OK now you're just being lazy.
This thread has the potential to degenerate to the point where we won't remember what the original post was about.
No one likes a quitter.
Your sarcasm has got to be the driest I've even seen lol.
Hmm, we can agree to disagree. It's like when the GameCube got Metal Gear 2 way after the fact, I was annoyed I was getting a hand-me-down. Self-worth? Na, I base that on my ability to take care of my family, but nice attempt at a thinly-veiled insult.
when the GameCube got Metal Gear 2 way after the fact, I was annoyed
I wasn't! With its improved gameplay and graphics, Twin Snakes is the best version of MGS by far. Kind of a poor example.
It was a good example for having to wait for an old game. I never questioned MW's potential quality for the Wii nor did I question Twin Snakes' quality. My point was waiting for an old game. I thought that was clear?
And my point was: isn't it at least somewhat worth the wait if you're getting the clearly superior version?
Hmm, good point. I think we can agree that MW for the Wii will not be the superior version though. At least not in most departments (of course some Wii owners may argue that being able to aim with the wii-mote trumps any graphic/audio shortcommings from the Wii version).
It will be interesting to see what (if any) differences/improvements there are and whether Wii-mote aiming substantially improves the experience like it did in RE4 and like the MGS2-derived control upgrades did in Twin Snakes.
I'm certainly not arguing that MWii will be superior in terms of graphics and sound like Twin Snakes was, but control and gameplay still trump graphics and sound.
Agreed. I just don't know how much better or more precise using the (Wii motion plus support?) wii-mote will be than two analog sticks but I guess we'll see.
A lot of people in Europe were pretty upset when Ghostbusters didn't come out for the XBox, & they only have to wait 6 months.
And I don't understand that, either. As if there aren't plenty of other quality Xbox games to play during those 6 months?
I think dubs you're forgetting about the importance of release schedules. I mean, some publishers make deals to get timed-exclusivity. If it didn't matter to anyone, why would people pay for timed-exclusives? If a huge game comes out on one system but not the other for 12 months or more (Bioshock, Oblivion, and the 4-6 month delay for Fallout DLC on the PS3 for example) someone may decide to purchase that system instead so they don't have to wait or if they own both consoles they'll buy the game for the system it comes out on first.
Sure, that's valid, but until now I thought we were discussing the reactions of extant owners of a given system and not those of potential buyers.
Nice vocabulary (had to look extant up).
We were, but I was just trying to make the point that a lot of people do care about having to wait for content they want. I used the existing practice of time-exclusives as a way to illustrate my point that many gamers do care about having to wait for content (unlike yourself).
Mmmm "Metal Gear 2" and "Twin Snakes" are two different games since Twin Snakes is kind of a remake of Metal Gear 1 as in "Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes" so yeah its kind of a poor example since you are talking about to separate games.
I forgot about that. That may prove my lack of interest in older titles coming out on other systems since I had no interest in Silicon Knights' take on Metal Gear.
I'm pretty sure Nick was talking about MGS1/Twin Snakes in his original post since MGS2 never got released on GameCube.
Also: "two separate games."
"Also: "two separate games."
Oh c'mon dubs you're better than that lol.
Mmmm Metal Gear 2 and Twin Snakes are two different games... yeah its kind of a poor example since you are talking about to separate games.
This was such an excellent counter-argument that you made to [sic] separate posts!
I have my moments :P plus that one was a slip of the mouse and got it twice.
I think the difference is that I can see why it would take ages for them to port MW to Wii, so I don't mind it as much. With porting MGS2 to GC, it felt like they could've done it pretty much straight away.
We all know perfectly well that being irked about a game coming out on another console before yours has nothing to do with self-worth, it's just about wanting to play the game in question as soon as possible, because it looks fun. There's little need to turn this into a pretentiously worded slanging-match.
Haha. Nicely put Dubs.
