According to Variety, Capcom will announce plans for a movie adaptation of the action title Lost Planet during this week’s E3 Media and Business Summit in LA.

Warner Bros. will have worldwide distribution rights for the movie, which Capcom will co-finance. The film is set to be produced by Seaside Entertainment, while the screenplay will be written by David Hayter, best known for his script work on the X-Men movie franchise and as the voice of Snake in the Metal Gear Solid videogame series.

Capcom president Haruhiro Tsujimoto has previously expressed his desire to see the publisher “do with games what Marvel did with comics”. Back in May he said that the company was engaged in discussions with Hollywood studios about bringing a number of its titles to the big screen.

Three movies based on Capcom’s Resident Evil franchise have already been released, while a second film based on the Street Fighter series is currently in development.

Oh, now they want to do something like Marvel does. Why didn't they think about that when they make Resident Evil movies? Apparently they don't know how to make good movies or even want to make them good. They just keep looking for the place lies the money, imitating what western company does.

I think it is pretty remarkable that our industry, a relatively young industry, affords more established institutions - like the movie business and, especially, the music business - new opportunities to touch consumers and provides innovative ways for them to make money. I find Mr. Tsujimoto's opinion of doing with games what Marvel did with movies exciting. Way back in the day, movies and television programs based on comic books were really lacking in plot, substance and, sadly, entertainment value. The same can be said about some of the movies that have been based on video games. Now movies based on comics are some of, if not the, coolest and most engrossing movies out there. I look forward to upping the game in this realm.
