Capcom has released a statement clarifying its product development strategy following recent reports that it moving away from Wii development.
During a recent interview with Gamekult, Capcom France boss Antoine Seux said that early sales of Wii release Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles were disappointing. He also said that, for Capcom, “the future is the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360”.
However, in a brief statement released today by its European arm, the publisher stressed that it is committed to a multiplatform development strategy.
“Further to comments made in a recent article on French website Gamekult, Capcom would like to confirm its commitment as a multi-platform developer and publisher of interactive software,” the company said.
Capcom has released numerous Wii titles, bringing major franchises such as Resident Evil and Monster Hunter to the platform. While the firm says it will continue to develop for Nintendo’s market leading console, it remains to be seen whether it will continue to release core/mature focused titles for Wii following the underwhelming initial retail performance of The Darkside Chronicles.
Seux’s comments came shortly after Sega studio director Constantine Hantzopoulos discussed the poor performance of the company’s mature rated Wii games, noting that it is unlikely to release titles similar to MadWorld and House Of The Dead: Overkill on the platform again.
