Capcom has released its Q2 financial results which appear steady in the face of global economic concerns.
Capcom’s net income climbed to ¥1.8b for the second quarter, up from ¥1.6b this time last year. Net sales reached ¥31.2b, not far from last year’s Q2 result of ¥31.1b.
The financial report, which you can read in full here (pdf), put its financial results in the context of the Japanese economy, which has been weakened by the US financial crisis, a downturn in exports as well as falling stock prices and consumer spending.
Capcom attributes much of its success to the highly popular Monster Hunter games, stating that the series has become “a social phenomenon in Japan”. The company reports that Monster Hunter Freedom 2G for the PSP has achieved sales of over 2m units, becoming the first software to mark the 2m milestone for the handheld.
