Japanese giant Capcom has responded to 'Splosion Man developer Twisted Pixel's description of iOS title MaXplosion as "complete theft". Speaking to Joystiq, the publisher insisted that MaXplosion's development team were not influenced by Twisted Pixel's game and expressed regret at the similarities between the two titles.
Twisted Pixel drew attention to the fact that it had shown the game to Capcom prior to its release in the hope of securing a publishing deal - a meeting Capcom admits took place.
"While Twisted Pixel did have discussions with our console game team about publishing 'Splosion Man on game consoles," said the publisher, "Capcom Mobile is a different division of Capcom with separate offices and, as such, had no prior knowledge of any meetings between the console game team and Twisted Pixel."
Capcom added: "MaXplosion was developed independently by Capcom Mobile. Nonetheless, we are saddened by this situation and hope to rebuild the trust of our fans and friends in the gaming community."
