Capcom is using the Web more extensively in order to reach potential Resident Evil 5 purchasers, according to the game's producer Jun Takeuchi.
"In addition to all the usual specialty magazines, we're also putting more effort into our Web promotions," Takeuchi said in a Capcom developer interview with internal PR (and which is incidentally available on the Web).
Takeuchi said he expects RE5 to sell 2 million copies worldwide "at the low end of the scale."
He added, "I'd like to see it start there and eventually reach 3 million copies. I think users in Europe and America will be particularly pleased with the game's content."
Capcom's official target for full-year global RE5 sales is 2.3 million units.
"There are websites for America, Japan, and Europe, but it is part of our global strategy to see to it that the basic concepts behind them are the same," said Takeuchi.
Capcom has expanded its Internet efforts overall, establishing the Capcom-Unity blog in February 2007, and offering easily-accessible information about its games on its corporate website. The company also has several more internally-produced developer interviews planned for the Web.
