4Catherine finds a European publisher
Only days ago Atlus told Joystiq it had "no plans at this time" to release Team Persona's HD console debut, erotic thriller Catherine, in Europe. Now Deep Silver has announced it is to publish the game across Europe later this year. Atlus used almost exactly the same line back in February, telling Beefjack it had "no plans for a North American release at this time." It then confirmed its US release four days later. Deep Silver's Klemens Kundratitz described Catherine as "something new, fresh and exciting; unlike anything else in the gaming world – a unique mixture of genres."

4Good news indeed, played the demo off the US PlayStation store, loved the games weirdness and concept and thought I'd have to pay a hefty import fee to own the full game.
Based on my experience of the demo, the story felt creepy and interesting, but as a game it felt shallow. Let's see if edge agrees if it decides to review it (not something they do very often).
About fucking time.
I think it was a lie pretty much that they initially had no interest in releasing this in western markets - looking at the theme of the game, it's very clear this has been purposefully made for western audiences - really go overboard with the sex, go where others have not yet gone before, and see if that can turn an otherwise pedestrian Japanese adventure/roleplaying game into a hit. Shin Megami Tensei and its ilk deserved to be a big hit in the west - so let's hope that even if this turns out to be a relatively meagre effort, that the sales it will bring in will at least ensure more Atlus games being localized abroad.
