Chinese Government Agencies Clash Over Game Regulations

Ministry Of Culture tells the General Administration Of Press And Publication it ìmust stop the surly interference in domestic online game enterprisesî.

The Chinese Ministry Of Culture (MOC) has clashed with fellow government agency, the General Administration Of Press and Publication (GAPP), over domestic control of videogame regulations.

Tuo Zuhai, deputy director of the MOC’s Department Of Cultural Marketing, said during GDC China that the GAPP “must stop the surly interference in domestic online game enterprises”, adding that it's his agency’s duty “to ensure the long-term development of China’s culture industry, especially the game industry”, according to Web2Asia.com.

The existing “three-determination regulation” means that the MOC, the GAPP and the State General Administration For Radio, Film And Television all play a role in Chinese game regulations, Zuhai noted, but he stressed that the MOC is “the competent authority in charge of the administration of online games” and that it will move to resolve disputes with the other agencies “through different channels”.

Earlier this month, the GAAP said that it had banned foreign investment in the country’s online games industry in a bid to strengthen the implementation of online game pre-approval and imported online game supervision.
