Presenting E205 and its cover star, Rage, id Software's first new IP since Quake. On sale in UK shops on August 3rd, but being delivered to subscribers right now.

The masters of Doom finally show off to us their new game and new engine, both of which represent big changes the legendary developer is undergoing. No longer concentrating on one game on one platform at a time, id has designed Rage and id Tech 5 to be multiformat, and just downstairs from Rage's development team, another is working on Doom 4, while another tends to Quake Live.

Not only that, but the studio, one of gaming's most storied independent developers, sold itself to Bethesda's parent company just days after we visited, and then there's the little matter of Rage being not only a classic id-style balls to the wall shooter but an open world adventure complete with driving and RPG elements. We have the full story behind this spectacular new game, complete with interviews with co-founder John Carmack, CEO Todd Hollenshead and designers Tim Willits and Matt Hooper.

Included elsewhere in the issue, we meet Heavy Rain creator David Cage for an in-depth interview, take a long, deep look at Kodu, Microsoft's game-making software for 360 and visit the set of Syntax Era, the BBC's new drama about the battle between Sir Clive Sinclair (creator of the ZX Spectrum) and Chris Curry, the man behind Acorn Computers, for supremacy of the home computer market of 1980s Britain. We also examine the present and future of 3D graphics and find out how Blitz Games is aiming to smooth out the road for indie developers with its 1UP initiative.
