Electronic Arts will publish Crysis 2 for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, the company has announced with developer Crytek.

Frankfurt,‭ ‬Germany-based Crytek said that the sequel to the highly rated PC shooter Crysis, which will be the developer's first console game, will also be the debut title built using its new multiplatform CryEngine 3 tech, which the company said previously it was readying for the next generation of console hardware in 2012.

“The development of Crysis 2 marks a major stepping stone for our studio,” said Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli. “This is not only the next game in the Crysis franchise, it’s the first title we are developing for consoles and the first title being built on CryEngine 3. We are excited to have the support of EA Partners again as we work together to make the launch of Crysis 2 a huge event.”

EA Partners’ David DeMartini added: “Crytek is already one of the elite PC development studios in the world and we are excited to have the opportunity to partner with them in bringing their award-winning technology and gameplay to more platforms and a wider audience with Crysis 2."

Question:

How many people own a PC capable of maxing out Crysis? Not sure, but it is a drop in the bucket compared to the number of people who own a PS3 or 360.

Very good question Zach. I think that's a question Crytek asked themselves, too.

Crysis, along with Halo, has to be one of the most over-rated games in the history of videogames. I was seriously disappointed by the game as it was just another run of the mill FPS.

Console owners weren't missing out on anything, if truth be told.

As for Crysis 2...who cares!

here is the thing it's smart to go multi plat, however crysis on consoles is going to be so dumbed down it wouldn't be funny. Consoles are out dated and old not worth playing.

this is good way for them to sell their engine. This game will really show how old those consoles really are.

here lets look at how dumed down console graphics are

this is just graphics it’s not even AI or game play design. this game will be a slap in the for ID software and epic games, I kind of like it

Depends on how it's designed, Dreamhunk. At this time, archetectures of the 360, PS3, & PC are so, radically, different that they may look more similar than you might think.

• PC - this version will support the highest resolution & shortest load times. It has the potential to offer the highest A.I., - I7, but will most likely not utilize this as A.I. is very difficult to "dumb down". They'll only "hatchet" their market so far; thus, this will be scaled down to basic quad-core.

• PS3 - this version will hold the absolute maximum level of texture & sound detail. This is, quite simply, attributed to the fact that Blu-Ray, (50GB..see MGS4), allows for a ridiculous amount of uncompressed texture & audio data not found anywhere else. The Cell processor enables the game to call this data nearly all at once. More colors vs. Higher resolution may look nearly identical.

• X360 - people generally discount this, but the '360 is a "triple-core + hyper-threading". Hyper-threading has been shown to allow for greater A.I. response. The Xbox gameplay should be the most "balanced" - (due to above) - of the 3. Couple that with the fact that Live is the most developed online gaming protocol; this version may look the worst, but actually be the most fun to play.

So it's really not about hardware, in the general sence. I don't know how old you are, but it could be compared to the old IBM vs. Amiga wars.

Still remember those. The first PC I ever used was an IBM, with the switches on the moniter to turn it on and off and the PC itself at the same time, not a simple button the press.

Also, AI in games are dumb. The real trick with developers is to create the illusion that it's smart. Personally, I find the PC version the best because a PC has the hardware to utilise the game in the way developers want it to be played, although on high settings of course so you need a powerful rig.

To be honest though, I find the Crysis games more of a Graphical Technical achievment and a benchmarking test rather then a good shooting game. Got it, played it for a few hours, benchmarked my PC with it and then uninstalled it. Never touched it since.
