EA-published PC shooter Crysis 2 was the most pirated game of 2011, according to Bittorrent blog Torrentfreak.
While Crytek's sequel was also released on PC and Xbox 360, the PC version alone was downloaded 3.92 million times, according to data collated from several sources including all public torrent trackers. By last July, the game had sold three million copies on all platforms worldwide.
A late development build of the game was leaked last February, but Torrentfreak claims that had little impact on the overall rate of piracy of the game: it was downloaded just 10,000 times. But the figures show that piracy is still a much bigger problem on PC than consoles.
All of the top 5 PC games were downloaded more than 3 million times. The most pirated game on Xbox 360 was Gears Of War 3, with 890,000 downloads; on Wii it was Super Mario Galaxy 2 for the second year in succession, with 1.28 million downloads over the course of the year.
