On Wednesday, Crytek finally emerged to confirm reports earlier this week that it purchased all assets and business of Nottingham, U.K.-based TimeSplitters creator Free Radical Design.

The studio, which will become Crytek U.K., will be the Frankfurt, Germany-based game maker's fifth locale, and its first U.K. studio.

Crytek managing director Avni Yerli said in a statement, “We’re very excited about this step to expand Crytek into the UK with such an experienced and highly talented team.

"Free Radical Design is a great fit to Crytek and its culture, given that Free Radical has a proven track record on delivering high quality games.

"The combination of this team, the Crytek network and our CryENGINE technology will be a foundation for outstanding gaming experiences and a magnet for the best talent in the U.K.”

Crytek outbid other unnamed suitors who were interested in purchasing Free Radical, which locked its doors and went into administration just before the Christmas holiday.

Administrator ReSolve Partners told Edge that 43 members of Free Radical's workforce would be added to Crytek.
