The entire games team at Blue Omega has been cut, according to former programmer Geoff Rowland.
"The entire Blue Omega team was laid off today (well, starting Friday). If anyone has job openings, send them my way and I'll pass them on," he wrote on his Twitter account.
The staff cuts follow a series of legal disputes between Blue Omega, Damnation publisher Codemasters and a pair of sub-contractors, Velvetelvis Studios and Point of View, according to documents uncovered by ShackNews.
Blue Omega reportedly hired Velvetelvis and Point of View to do contract work on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC shooter Damnation back in 2007.
Codemasters is then alleged to have removed Blue Omega from development duties, while Point of View continued work on the project, leading the original developer to file a $75,000 lawsuit against the publisher that was later voluntarily dismissed.
In February Blue Omega launched another lawsuit, claiming that Velvetelvis' "unfinished" and "untimely" work caused the company to miss deadlines with Codemasters. It is seeking $75,000 in damages.
A week ago I would've said I'd pick it up if I saw it in a $5 bargain bin, but thanks to Escapist's Unskippable I'm pretty sure I'm off of that as well.
You go to the Escapist?! So do I, but only for the forums and only for things not related to gaming.

Well... that explains how such a cool concept ended up missing the mark.. Despite the gunplay and AI issues, the game can actually be quite a bit of fun. the level design and sense of scale are tremendous right from the beginning. Damnation reminded me of a cross between the first Tomb Raider with a bit of Galleon for good measure. Unfortunately, killing enemies with 1996 AI isn't as thrilling as it should be in 2009...
