Capcom has confirmed the existence of a sequel to Dead Rising.‭

Dead Rising‭ ‬2‭ ‬is currently in development for the PS3,‭ ‬Xbox‭ ‬360‭ ‬and PC.‭ ‬The title is‭ ‬being developed by Canadian developer Blue Castle Games with the aid of a number of the‭ ‬original Dead Rising development team.‭

Keiji Inafune will step in as‭ ‬the game’s‭ ‬producer,‭ ‬with Capcom claiming the renowned developer will play an‭ “‬active role‭” ‬in the title’s design.

Earlier today‭ ‬CVG reported on a YouTube video supposedly showing footage of the new title.‭ ‬When Edge approached Capcom Europe on the subject,‭ ‬the publisher could not confirm or deny that the video was legitimate.

‭“‬Dead Rising‭ ‬2‭ ‬will take the franchise to a new level of zombie-killing fun with tens of thousands of zombies,‭” ‬read a statement from Capcom,‭ ‬adding that play will occur in the‭ “‬all-new gambling paradise of Fortune City to explore and conquer plus a host of new in-game objects that can all be used as deadly weapons to stave off the zombie assault.‭”

Further details‭ ‬are expected to arrive soon.‭

Awesome news. I thought Dead Rising was one of the best games that year. The unique gameplay mechanics and just the fun of slaughtering THOUSANDS of zombies was very welcomed on the Xbox 360. The humor throughout was pretty cool, too. -- I do hope they change some of the time-sensitive missions...it was a lot of STRESS to complete a task on time AND choosing which mission to take on rather than trying to save everyone. I also hope the save system gets an update...but other than that, what a unique, memorable and exciting experience. I really LOVED Dead Rising. Cool!

Insincere Dave says: Lets hope they keep the REALLY GOOD save system from the first game that was a hit with ALL gamers.

Yeah, that saving system ruined the game for me. I hope the shift to a Western developer will do away with some of those Japanese developer legacy issues (like the terrible shooting mechanic, as well as the save system).
