Dear Esther dev working on new Amnesia

Dear Esther developer Thechineseroom is working on a new game in the Amnesia series, subtitled A Machine For Pigs.

Joystiq reports that the game, which is being developed by Dan Pinchbeck's studio and produced by Frictional Games, developer of the original Amnesia: The Dark Descent, will be released for PC later this year.

Pinchbeck said that the game is not a direct sequel, but it set in an "alternate history in the same universe." Set in 1899, it follows Oswald Mandus, a "wealthy industrialist [returning from] a disastrous expedition to Mexico, which has ended in tragedy."

Struck by fever, he dreams of a "dark machine" and, when he wakes, months have passed and said machine turns out to be very much real. At that point, we assume, things get terrifying.

Released in 2010, Amnesia: The Dark Descent has sold over 200,000 copies and won in three categories at last year's GDC Awards.
