Devil May Cry Series Hits 10 Million Sales

Once intended as a Resident Evil sequel, Shinji Mikami's famed Hack and Slash series breaks sales milestone.

Capcom has announced that its Devil May Cry series has now shipped over ten million copies worldwide.

Of that landmark sum, Devil May Cry 4 accounts for sales of 2.2 million copies. Capcom was reluctant, however, to compare the sales of the fourth instalment to its predecessors.

Back in February this year, Capcom announced that around 2.5 million copies of the original Devil May Cry had been sold. Further back, in September 2006, Capcom announced that Devil May Cry 2 had shipped over 1.6 million copies. This implies that Devil May Cry 4 is the third-biggest selling edition of the series.

Capcom adds that Devil May Cry 4 achieved its sales figure “despite being released early in the life cycle of the current generation of systems.”

“Capcom plans to continue developing more franchise-related products,” the publisher concluded.
