Patrick Soderlund, senior vice president at EA Games Europe, has confirmed that Swedish developer DICE is working on a follow up to 2008’s Mirror’s Edge.

“You will see another Mirror’s Edge for sure,” he told VideoGamer. “It’s just a matter of when that time is and what we do with it. We have a small team on it and I’m excited about what we do”

Last December, just one month after the original Mirror’s Edge launched, EA CEO John Riccitiello said the publisher wouldn’t be ditching the new IP, which fell short of internal sales expectations.

"We would have liked the game to sell better even though the game has sold better than most people think,” added Soderlund.

Mirror's Edge was my favorite game of 2008 and my favorite art direction since Shadow of the Colossus. It was more than the sum of its parts and artfully painted a world in my mind that was larger than it's actually size. As the games industry matures we'll see more titles based on delivering unique experiences - I'll be first in line to buy Mirror's Edge 2 as soon as it's out.

I'm quite surprised to read your comment. I didn't think Mirror's Edge could be anyone's favourite. And that’s precisely the problem with it – it was good but not quite good enough for me. I think the second attempt will be much better…

Quite an underrated one, this. But I agree with you Jack, something was missing and whatever it was they need to find it.

I really enjoyed the first one. It had some blemishes and the melee comment, while cool in concept, suffered in execution. My first thought after beating the game was "another year of polish would've done wonders for this. A sequel is an absolute must."

I am glad to see it's coming.

Hopefully they can find whatever went wrong with the first one. Damned if I can put my finger on it, since unlike most games I dislike it wasn't any specific thing, but the first one was just no fun at all.
