Japanese DSi sales more than doubled during the week ended July 12, on the back of the massive release of Square Enix’s Dragon Quest IX.

Weekly sales of the handheld jumped from 46,855 units to 118,202, while DS Lite also saw a 2,500 unit sales increase. The portable easily outsold all other consoles combined, with every platform bar DS seeing a weekly decline.

Dragon Quest IX, the latest entry in Square’s long-running RPG franchise, released alongside a red DSi in Japan on July 11, and sold over 2.3 million copies in just two days. It was the only new entry to make the software top ten, knocking Wii Sports Resort down to second place after two weeks at the chart summit.

I can say "toy boat" five times fast. That's what.

Nice, I'm in awe. I was wondering what the deal with DSi is. Does it actually have more power than older models or is it just a few extra token features and no backwards compatibility? I'm just a little confused.

A quick Wikipedia search would answer your query. Yes, in fact, it's actually a lot more powerful than the original DS/DS Lite. Nice processor boost and RAM upgrade.
