Square Enix has published sales figures for its portfolio of recent releases, with Dragon Quest V topping the list.
Since the game's release for the DS in July this year, Dragon Quest V has amassed sales of above 1.19 million in Japan alone, though that figure should be higher as it does not take into account any sales data from 2009. The title is set for release in the US and Britain later this week.
The PSP title Dissidia Final Fantasy, meanwhile, sold an astonishing 780,000 units in under two weeks, if the Square Enix report is accurate. The publisher has reported these sales for the nine months ended Dec 31 2008, though Dissidia Final Fantasy was released in Japan just under two weeks before the year closed.
Chrono Trigger DS, which was released in Japan and North America during November last year, has sold over 710,000 units in both regions; 490,000 from Japan, 220,00 from North America. The handheld title was previosly said to be the 22nd best-selling game of Japan last year.
Square Enix's full list of sales for the nine months ended Dec 31:
Dragon Quest V - 1.19m
Dissidia: Final Fantasy - 780,000
Chrono Trigger DS - 710,000
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII - 700,000
Last Remnant - 490,000
Final Fantasy IV DS - 480,000
Infinite Undiscovery - 440,000
Final Fantasy Tactics A2 DS - 340,000
Dragon Quest IV - 300,000
Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume - 160,000
Meanwhile, the publisher has updated lifetime sales for four key fanchises. The PSP title Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII has reached 1.96 million units worldwide (as of Dec 31, 2008). Its sales share is split with a 820,000 majority sold in Japan, 660,000 copies sold in the US and 480,000 selling in Europe.
Added from the 300,000 sales the game received in the first three fiscal quarters, Dragon Quest IV has now amassed life-to-date sales of 1.45 million units. As well as this, Final Fantasy IV for the DS has enjoyed over one million sales since its launch.
It's sad to see some of the numbers for these titles, like Chrono Trigger and DQIV. I hope that's just because of the late release dates and they've been going up.
