Sony’s portable has enjoyed an extended run at the top of the Japanese hardware chart and continued to lead sales during the week ended August 3, although the gap between the system and Nintendo’s handheld was cut from more than 10,000 units to less than 4,000.
PSP sales fell by over 6,000 units during the week in question despite the software chart topping success of Phantasy Star Universe, while DS and Wii sales crept up marginally.
Sony’s PS3 outpaced its predecessor by just 450 units as sales of both systems dropped slightly, while Xbox 360 sales rose by 400 units.

I wonder what, after....?2-3 years of being released?....is causing this sudden (however mild it may be) interest in Xbox?
That's great news that not only did a 360 game hit the top ten in sales in japan, but also is selling over half of what the PS3 is doing (normally that wouldn't be anything to brag about, but for xbox in Japan that's great news).
Go Xbox. Not bad numbers for an also-ran.
