Nintendo’s DSi knocked Sony’s PS3 from the top spot of the hardware sales chart in Japan during the week ended September 13.
Having sold over 150,000 units during its launch week, PS3 sales fell by 95,000 units to just over 55,000, while DSi sales were up by 6,500 units to 66,500.
The weekly sales data is largely similar to that which we reported earlier this week from Famitsu publisher Enterbrain. According to sales monitor Media Create the PSP narrowly outsold the Wii, with both consoles falling short of 20,000 sales, while DS Lite sales topped 11,000. Xbox 360 sales were up slightly to 7,500 units, while the PS2 rounded of the hardware chart with 2,600 sales.
DSi – 66,498
PS3 – 55,344
PSP – 18,375
Wii – 17,568
DS Lite – 11,179
Xbox 360 – 7,568
PS2 – 2,612
New Pokémon games for DS dominated the weekly software rankings. As reported earlier this week, Pokémon SoulSilver and HeartGold - remakes of 2000’s Game Boy Color titles Pokémon Gold and Silver – sold over 1.4 million units combined in just two days to take the top two spots.
Tomodachi Collection and Dragon Quest IX continued to perform strongly, placing third and fourth, with the former passing the one million sales mark.
The highest ranking non-DS title was the previous week’s bestseller, Kidou Senshi Gundam Senki for the PS3, while Edia’s Maplus Portable Navigator 3 for PSP debuted in tenth place.
