Rumors are circulating that Nintendo’s DSi handheld will be released on April 4, in the US at least, and will retail for around $179.99 – placing it $50 above the DS Lite’s current RRP.

The growing speculation has been supplied by games site IGN, which claims that "multiple sources close to Nintendo" has told the publication that the Japanese giant is relaying information to business partners about the DSi’s launch across America.

Nintendo has told Edge that it cannot comment on speculation.

The company said back in December that the handheld had sold over one million copies in Japan since its October release, while in the US the DS Lite has been widely predicted to have sold around three million copies in December alone. Nintendo of America's Reggie Fils-Aime has already stated that such strong demand for the DS Lite means the DSi will not see a US release “at least” until April this year.

This for me is a massive missed opportunity to really take it to the psp! Imagine that the DSi had gamecube style graphics like psp has ps2 style graphics, who would then even consider buying a"POOR STATION PORTABLE" then? And for those folk who say graphics aint important, go play your games on your beloved BBC acorn or Achemedeis!

The DSi would need to have some top downloadable games before i'd even consider purchasing the handheld. There would be no point in parting with my DSL until then.
