It looks like it's back-to-basics for the king of the swingers under the tutelage of Metroid revivalists Retro Studios.
At Nintendo's E3 presentation, it wasn't just Kirby who was given a makeover - Donkey Kong barrel-rolled into town in a side-scrolling Wii game that looks set to return the character back to his golden-age roots.
Canadian developer Retro Studios brought Samus Aran into the 21st Century with Metroid Prime, bringing a new slant to an old franchise. In the gameplay demonstration of Donkey Country Returns today in LA, all signs point to a traditional slant on a side-lined series.
Nintendo said in a press release: "The classic franchise makes a return with new levels and updated graphics, but with the same sense of fun and excitement of the original. For the first time in the series, two people can play through the entire game cooperatively. The game is scheduled to launch this holiday season."
