E32010: Sony Delivers 3D Message, Dates Killzone 3

"Sony is the undisputed leader in 3D" was Kaz Hirai's message as he took to the stage before Killzone 3 took over.

Promising 20 native 3D titles by March 2011, Sony CEO Kaz Hirai reinforced the importance of 3D to the Playstation strategy at today's E3 conference, enthusing that "what Playstation did for Blu-Ray, we're ready to it for 3D".

Moments later Hermen Hulst, Guerrilla Games head, stepped in with a 3D demonstration of Killzone 3. Audience members were equipped with 3D glasses as the demo took flight. A glacier-hopping assualt on an industrial rig was the highlight, in a pre-alpha code that looked as robust and polished as Killzone 2 master code.

Though the gun-play and aesthetics look largely unchanged from that of previous iterations, it was clear that Guerrilla's real push was in the 3D arena with Hermen stating that 3D "is a key pillar in our development process... from the ground up."

The PS3 exclusive was also given a tentative release date of February 2011 and confirmed as Move compatible at launch.
