E32010: Zelda: Skyward Sword Announced

Nintendo has just shown off the debut trailer for the new Wii Zelda game, titled Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword.

The trailer showed bow and arrow aiming and swordplay, with Nintendo design legend Shigeru Miyamoto then demoing the title on-stage. The Wii Remote is used to control the player’s sword and the Nunchuk their shield. The game will support Wii MotionPlus and item use will controlled with the B button.

"I think this game will be remembered as a key turning point in Zelda's history," Miyamoto said.

Skyward Sword won’t be released until 2011.

Nintendo said in an official press release: "The game marks a turning point for the franchise, as the introduction of full motion controls enabled by the Wii MotionPlus accessory synchronises player movements with Link’s actions while offering the most intuitive play control of any Legend of Zelda game to date. The game is scheduled to launch in 2011."
