Citing an industry source, Inside Social Games suggests that a deal may have been sealed weeks ago, with an official announcement due to be made in the coming weeks. Silicon Alley Insider sources value the acquisition at around $250 million.
Formed in 2007, Playfish has enjoyed breakout success on social networks with the likes of Pet Society, Restaurant City and Country Story. It claims that its nine games have been installed over 135 million times and have more then 50 million active monthly players.
The company operates a business development focused office in San Francisco and development studios in London, Beijing, Norway and San Francisco.
