EA has announced that it has struck a deal with Jason Bourne IP owner Ludlum Entertainment. The publisher will now release a Jason Bourne title currently in development at Swedish studio Starbreeze.
Starbreeze is currently working on The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena and it's been known for some time to have a second project (codenamed Project RedLime) in the works. Edge understands that the upcoming Bourne title is in fact not the RedLime project, which is in development by a separate team at Starbreeze.
Starbreeze’s publishing deal with Activision on the new Riddick title fell through after the publisher made divestments following its merger with Vivendi.
“Robert Ludlum’s Jason Bourne is the most exciting action hero to emerge in decades, thrilling audiences around the world,” says Mike Quigley, group vice president of marketing, EA Games Label. “EA is excited to enter into a long-term relationship with Ludlum Entertainment, bringing the action, intrigue and intensity of Robert Ludlum’s fiction to life for casual and core gamers around the globe.”
“The continued global popularity of Robert Ludlum’s works is a testament to the care he lavished on his characters and storylines,” said Jeffrey Weiner, chairman and CEO of Ludlum Entertainment and executor of the Ludlum estate.
“Robert Ludlum made thrilling stories accessible and real. EA has brought that same level of realism to the gaming world. We are confident EA‘s unparalleled production ability and marketing reach will establish the Jason Bourne Series in games as powerfully and successfully as it exists in books and film.”
Article updated to clarify link between the next Bourne game and Project RedLime.
It does seem a bit odd that a spy game would be for casual gamers. Does the world really need a video game version of hide and seek?

Call me cynical, but several parts of that sentence just do not sound good to me.
