Electronic Arts confirmed on Monday that the release of its latest Harry Potter game, The Half-Blood Prince, has been delayed until the summer of 2009 following Warner Bros. Pictures’ decision to delay the movie’s launch.
“We’re excited about the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince videogame in development and its high level of authenticity and playability,” said Robert Nashak, vice president of EA Casual Studios.
“We are creating an immersive game experience that Potter fans around the world will really enjoy playing as they fly and duel their way through the story of the film. The game will feature new Wii gestures and increased gameplay capabilities across all of the platforms.”
Back in August news broke that the latest Harry Potter film had been pushed back from a November 2008 release to July 2009, but at the time EA wouldn’t confirm whether or not it would be delaying the launch of the game based on the movie.
Following the delay of the movie Lazard Capital Markets analyst Colin Sebastian said that he was moving $120 million of revenues into EA's fiscal 2010, as he expects the publisher to sell three million copies of the Bright Light Studio developed title following its eventual release on nine platforms.
Signal Hill analyst Todd Greenwald also told Edge that the game’s delay would have a “negative impact” on EA’s current business year outlook.
Oh well, no excuses for any niggling problems with the game now then, they have plenty of time for some spit and polish!!
