EA has confirmed new instalments for two of its major franchises, Need For Speed and Battlefield.
Speaking at the William Blair Growth Stock Conference, EA chief operating officer John Pleasants revealed that Burnout developer Criterion is working on an unannounced Need For Speed title.
"We've taken the Burnout team and combined it with our Need For Speed franchise," said Pleasants, according to G4TV. "So we now have that in our favour because that Burnout team is probably one of the more online-centric and notably high-quality game developers that we have out at Criterion."
The executive also confirmed that Swedish studio Dice is currently developing Battlefield 3.
"I've had the luxury of looking at Battlefield 3 over at Dice in Sweden and was highly impressed by the way the team is working on that product," he said. "Of course, that's not [coming out] in the fiscal year, but that is a product that is looking very good."
As a longtime fan of the Burnout series who hasn't enjoyed a NFS game since Hot Pursuit on PSOne, I think it's a crying shame that Criterion are being shackled with that albatross of a franchise.
looks like EA is turning up the heat with hot tittles
EA are really starting to gain the respect of consumers I think. FIFA, so long the poster boy for tired rehashes, is now widely regarded as the best football game going, added to that thier attempts to rejuvinate their flagging NFS franchise with the GTR team and now with the Burnout team as well as big hitters such as Mass effect 2 and I've got to say EA are doing a lot right these days.
that is because they are after blizzard. they want the same kind of repuation that blizzard has for games. I think their CEO is a gamer. lol

Agreed, kingheff1. They've even taken quite a few gambles on new IP's the past few years. Something Activision and Ubisoft are still reluctant to do to the same extent.
