EA: "Go to Hell"

EA officially reveals Dante's Inferno videogame.

Several months after copyrighting "Dante's Inferno" for games, film and TV, Electronic Arts has officially announced a videogame based on the classic 14th Century literary work by Dante Alighieri.

The game, the latest in EA's recent string of new intellectual properties, is in development by Dead Space house EA Redwood Shores, and will take gamers through the nine circles of hell: limbo, lust, gluttony, greed, wrath, heresy, violence, fraud and treachery.

The main question around the game is whether EA's game will truly do the poem justice, or reduce the masterpiece to typical videogame fodder.

In a statement, the game's executive producer Jonathan Knight said, " The time is right for the world of interactive entertainment to adapt this literary masterpiece, and to re-introduce Dante to an audience who, until now, may have been unfamiliar with the remarkable details of this great work of art.

"It’s the perfect opportunity to fuse great gameplay with great story.”

No release date for the game has been announced.

A piece in Variety recently said that EA was shopping around the film rights to the Dante's Inferno game to major studios.
