The restructuring of EA’s business position continues with today’s announcement that the publisher will be shutting down three of its Facebook games. Sims Social, Pet Society, and SimCity Social will all see their servers shut down on June 14 of this year.
Refunds will not be provided to players who have purchased in-game currency. In return, EA will be offering players “a special offer to introduce you to a PopCap game,” according to a statement. It seems that EA will be moving its focus over to PopCap, the casual games giant behind Plants vs. Zombies. EA purchased the studio back in July for $750 million.
EA has been going through a large amount of changes since CEO John Riccitiello’s departure in March. Last week, it shut down its Montreal studio, which mostly focused on mobile and free-to-play games.
