Australia’s largest specialist games retailer could be the latest firm to decide not to stock Sony’s upcoming PSPgo.

There’s no mention of the new UMD-free handheld on the firm’s website, and numerous EB Games employees have confirmed that the product isn’t listed on the company’s system despite its October 1 release date.

However, EB’s head office wouldn’t comment on suggestions that it won’t be selling the PSPgo, reports Kotaku.

SCE Australia wouldn’t comment on EB’s stance either, but told the site: “In relation to our business and the launch of PSPgo, we are already experiencing solid support for launch day on October 1 in Australia… As with any new product, there will be continued discussions with retail partners to continue to expand reach over time in line with growth of the entire PSP platform.”

Earlier this month leading Dutch retailer Nedgame announced that it wouldn’t be selling the PSPgo, citing the device's inability to support physical media.

These retailers are fighting for their lives. Unfortunately for them however this is the future, and it is inevitable.

This news doesn't surprise me. Sony only have themselves to blame.

Ouch things are getting nasty I suppose in a way it's like a prelude to the problems of an inevitable attempted switch of most game media to digital only. This kind of plays into Apples' hands a little bit as their gadget isn't sold in gaming stores so there isn't a conflict of interest there.

Could we start seeing, then, Sony exclusive stores sprouting up around the country like Apple to sell exclusive Sony stuff including PSPGo, consoles, screens, peripherals, games and hey, even redeemable dlc vouchers in Europe like iTunes?

I dunno if Sony fans are as fanatical as Apple fans. If it was Nintendo this would work as they kind of have a Disneyesque vibe about them.

Sony shops already exist, they are called Sony Centres, although they arent really in the same vein as Apple stores. They are more like a brand specific Dixons, rather than Apple stores which offer support and learning facilities as well as products

Yeah, you're right, but they wouldn't exactly get me all fired up to buy games stuff. But perhaps they could adapt these to make them more exciting. Because if you get game stores selling one Sony product but not another, that would seem to fragment the branding somewhat. It would sure send out negative vibes if customers, looking for a PSPGo, went into a game shop that sold Sony product only to be told they didn't stock the latest 'must have'.

The PSPGo is a very expensive and radical (no physical product) piece of kit. It seems to me that if Sony are setting out to be market leaders in the home technology revolution, they're going to have to put a bit more savvy into the marketing and branding than this. But then again, I'm no expert.

With that hefty price-tag surely set out to punish early adopters, no UMD drive, no physical product, touchscreen, etc it's not gonna win that many people over.........so why am I strangely attracted to PSPGo? Now if only our local Tesco's can rope this in at 199.99, I might just think about it, especially as I bypassed the previous PSP's.
