Speaking at Apple's conference, Epic Games president Mike Caps revealed Epic Citadel, a new game for the iOS device family. Utilising the Unreal engine, the game is an RPG with built in PVP gameplay through Game Center.

"Epic Citadel is an action packed role-playing adventure and it's filled with epic sword battles," explained Caps. "It's powered by our award winning Unreal Engine technology which has powered countless hits for console and of course our Gears Of War series."

An area called the Citadel, a "vast environment filled with enemies and treasure" was demonstrated. The city uses advanced lighting effects and detailed geometry with a visual style not too far from Fable.

Players can invite each other to PVP battles which are turn based and controlled by either screen swipes (which are translated into attacks on screen) or by dragging icons, such as a foot, to a point on your enemy, such as their face. The two schemes are designed to accommodate hardcore and casual players.

Game Center provides achievements, similarly to existing services like OpenFeint, which will be automatically shared with your friends.

The game will be released "this holiday season" on iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad, and the tech demo is available now on the App Store.
