November's Gears of War 2 has proven to be a critical and commercial smash with over 3 million copies sold, but the game does have some problems, particularly with online gameplay. Developer Epic Games intends to fix these problems in a "major" upcoming patch.
Epic Games VP Mark Rein wrote in a Tuesday blog post that an update addressing certain issues is expected to go live sometime in January. He offered a rundown of just a few of the upcoming changes:
Rein also made special note of online shotgun exploits. "We fixed the client-side hit detection on the shotgun so that in a high-latency (i.e. 'laggy') match, the shotgun will be more reliable. We’ve also fixed another bug whereby shotgun and boomshot rounds could strike the ground when firing from the hip."
A more detailed list of fixes is on the way, he added. "...We’re working hard to get this out the door and once it’s done we’ll start working on the next update."
Thank you to companies like Epic for bringing the problems of PC gaming to consoles and ruining it.
Thank you the magazines for giving these games top scores despite bugs (ie Edge giving a 9) which give companies no incentive to actually improve their games or give consumers any warning about how buggy a game may be.
Magazines need to start showing more integrity and PC developers need to buzz off and go back to the PC and quit shitting all over console gaming.
personally bro, you need to shut your mouth.
the reason why edge gave it a 9, is because it is an exceptional game with very minor flaws. they can be fixed, as you see here with a patch. every game has problems, no game has ever came out perfect.
and as for telling them to stay to pc gaming. they expand their horizons just like anyone else. look at valve when they put left 4 dead on the 360. and i've found glitches in that already. so just quit complaining and in a way, tell epic of the glitches so they can fix them. plus they make fantastic game engines. i hope they never go away. :]
This patch is SORELY needed. My friends and I have stopped playing Gears 2 online all together.
I also hope the bug involving players not being able to do anything except move (you can shoot but it doesn't register as hits) due to connection issues, is addressed by the fixes as well.
I'm glad their fixing it, but the game probably lost a good chunk of playerbase due to these bugs, and I'd imagine many of them have moved onto other online shooters and won't be coming back regardless of the patch.
