Nintendo of Europe will add three new colours to its DSi line-up next month.

Metallic blue, light blue and red handhelds will be available from October 23, joining the existing white and black DSi models that launched in April 2009.

The new SKUs will come with animation application Flipnote Studio and a Facebook feature pre-installed. Flipnote Studio allows users to create their own flip book-style animations, while the Facebook feature enables users to post photographic creations straight to their profile on the social networking site.

Purchasers who use their console to access the DSi Shop through the Nintendo Wi-Fi connection before March 31, 2010 will receive 1,000 DSi Points for free.

Check out more screens of the new SKUs at Official Nintendo Magazine.

I'm sure I saw the new coloured ones advertised in Tesco today. Could be wrong mind, I hate shopping and my mind was elsewhere...

The whole different colour platforms thing is becoming a bit like women's makeup, soon we'll be getting marginally different colours with bizarre names. All hail new DSI colours winter frost, luscious red and tangerine burst.

Ooh 'tangerine burst'. Nice

Lol. Screams of lazy marketing departments to me.

The Facebook thing is O.K i guess but this news really isnt anything thats gonna get me excited

How is it lazy marketing when Nintendo has always done this with their portable consoles and, like iPods, not everyone wants a black one and a lot of people certainly don't want a white one.

That and it's guaranteed these units will work as well as the existing ones.

It's definitely better than releasing a new version of a portable that won't play the old system's games or multiple SKUs of a home console, some of with are effectively handicapped and if you want to upgrade the system to match a top of the line system it will cost you an arm and a leg.

Its lazy because what it offers is extremely minimal.

1. A different colour, hardly original
2. A glorified link to Facebook, cant honestly think of another hand-held that can do that!
3. A flip-book thing that would be a second rate iPhone app

Pretty lazy really, it hardly took a team of rocket scientists. Much like the DSi itself really, 'putting a camera in something' is obviously the new 'putting a clock in something'. Before anyone says it yes im aware that Apple are equally as guilty of this

So it's lazy that cars, clothes, pens, etc come in different colours?

Of course it's not fucking original but it's something people want.

We get asked constantly if there are any new colours coming out. If people want it, do it, it's hardly the end of the world to give in to consumer demand on this issue.
