Ex-Obsidian Designer Says Aliens RPG "Cancelled"

Sega, Obsidian won't comment on the status of the game.

In late 2006, Sega created some positive buzz when it said it would be publishing an RPG that married the Aliens movie franchise with Knights of the Old Republic II and Neverwinter Nights 2 developer Obsidian Entertainment.

But after recent rumored layoffs at Obsidian, and Sega's cryptic proclamation earlier this month that it has "strategically updated the release of the other upcoming Aliens titles currently in development," the publisher effectively threw a wet blanket on Aliens RPG expectations.

Now David Kondor has come to further rain on the parade, saying in his LinkedIn business networking profile that he is an ex-designer for Obsidian on the "cancelled third-person action Aliens RPG (Xbox 360, PS3, & PC)." He was at Obsidian for 11 months, with his employment ceasing this February.

Contacted by Edge, a rep for Sega apologized and said the publisher doesn't comment on "rumors or speculation."  A message left with Calif.-based Obsidian Entertainment wasn't returned as of press time. When approached by fans, developers posting on Obsidian's forums would not comment on the status of the game.

Sega recently announced that it has signed on U.K.-based Rebellion to develop the tentatively-titled Aliens vs. Predator game, due for 2010. Gearbox Software is currently working on Aliens: Colonial Marines for Sega.
