Lionhead developed Xbox 360 exclusive Fable II will ship without online co-op play enabled, while Media Molecule’s PS3-only LittleBigPlanet will lack its online Create mode at launch.
“We just got word that while we will be able to play the single player and local co-op on day one, they are still making tweaks to the online co-op,” said Microsoft’s GamerScore blog of Fable II. “Don't worry, it is definitely still coming… Lionhead and Microsoft Game Studios are looking to get the update out within the first week of launch in North America…”
Similarly, a post on the official PlayStation forums confirms that LittleBigPlanet’s online create mode, which allows users to build game content in a multiplayer fashion, will not be enabled when the title first releases.
“The ability to create with your friends online will come as part of the first major update after the game is released,” said a Sony rep. “We're working on making this available as quickly as possible, but want to make sure it's right before releasing it.”
The rep added that all of the game’s sharing features will be up and running come launch, as will both online and offline multiplayer modes for playing through the story or downloaded levels.
Very much correct. Although, this doesn't bother me because the game isn't delayed, and I will have loads of fun playing the 50+ single player levels, and creating my own levels by myself.
The comment about LittleBigPlanet is misleading.
Unless I'm very much mistaken, the game will allow users to "build and share game content online" from the very start. (Heck, it works in the beta!) What won't be enabled initially is the ability to use Create mode collaboratively online.
In other words, what you will be able to do is:
Please do correct me if I'm wrong!
That appears to be correct...
With both games I think it is a sign of the pressure being applied from above to ship by a certain date... which is somewhat worrying. If they hadnt been such high profile titles you would expect them to be held back until all the features were ready surely...
