Bethesda Softworks said Thursday that the critical hit Fallout 3 has shipped 4.7 million copies worldwide across PC, Xbox 360 and PS3, generating sales of over $300 million.
The shipments were made in about a week's worth of time. A rep told Edge specific platform sales were not available at the current time.
By comparison, it took Bethesda's last epic RPG, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, about three weeks to ship just 1.7 million copies when it launched in March 2006 on only two platforms, Xbox 360 and PC (it later came to PS3).
A considerably larger console install base, focused marketing and plenty of hype amongst gamers and media helped push the game past Oblivion.
Fallout 3 landed in North American stores on October 28 and a couple days later in PAL territories.
The post-apocalyptic RPG is set in Washington D.C., now reduced to a wasteland following a nuclear war that drove humans into underground vaults.
bethesda has a good reputation for resolving most problems with their first patch. they just dont have the best reputation for the speed of their release.
YES!!!! It may be bug ridden, but it has arrived on time(ish) and despite having to restart the game due to npc's not talking and doors not opening, I LOVE IT.
