EA’s FIFA 09 has dug its toes into the top spot of the UK all-format charts, selling enough units to keep Treyarch’s World At War in second place, according to data provided by Chart-Track.

The last four weeks had seen the two games swap positions on weekly intervals, with FIFA punching into the top spot to claim a Christmas number one, just days before Activision’s shooter pulled it back into second. FIFA again rose above World At War last week amid a heavy sales plunge, and now – by selling a slender 400 units more than World At War – FIFA has held the top spot for a second consecutive week.

Below the two titles is another non-mover from last week; EA’s Need for Speed: Undercover. The rest of the top ten saw a slight jumble, with only one new entry as Lego Indiana Jones climbs eight places to ninth, while Sonic Unleashed falls out of the top ten and drops to 19.

Interestingly, the moth-eaten tradition of making a New Year resolution – which frequently is to loose the pounds put on by a good time at Christmas – has given a tremendous boost in sales for Nintendo’s Wii Fit. The game has rocketed from 20 to fourth.

Unfortunately, Wii Fit’s encouraging growth is the exception to the rule, as Chart Track reports that sales of all other games in the top 40 have dropped, many of them falling by more than half.

All Format top-ten provided by Chart Track follows:

1. FIFA 09
2. Call of Duty: World At War
3. Need for Speed: Undercover
4. Wii Fit
5. Wii Play
6. Guitar Hero World Tour
7. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games
8. Quantum of Solace
9. Lego Indiana Jones: Original Adventures
10. Mario Kart Wii
